Midwinter Classic Recap Time

Image
Sunday morning was the Cape Elizabeth Midwinter Classic 10 mile race .   Ward and I drove down to race together that morning.  It was chilly and I didn't know what to wear for a top - and that stressed me out.  I had lots of options but couldn't make up my mind - so I brought them all with me - and then talked about over analyzed the weather with Ward the entire way to Cape Elizabeth.  Poor guy. I knew what I was wearing on the bottom - my new Mushas with my Sweat Pink laces and Schwings & some fun Target clearance knee highs I knew what I was wearing on my head - Since I drove to Maine Running Company to pick up the bib #s - I thought I'd treat myself to this fun skull cap. Dorky picture - but I do LOVE my new hat!  Izzy apparently does too since she's eyeing it up in the backseat.   And I had my lucky bib # - 77 - my birth year.  Sure to be good luck for me!!! At least I was all set there!   When I saw ...

'twas the night before a race

And the girls got together for some carb loading and fun.  And we unleashed 9 kids into Stacy's house.  I'm surprised the house is still standing!   we are down a kiddo here - Carrie's littlest one was actually napping through all of the craziness! And my shoes are ready to go.  The more obnoxious looking, the faster I'll be tomorrow.  Right? And I have a great shirt to wear after I run that race!    Happy Saturday night!  I'm heading to bed.   I found my Garmin and iPod - so they are both charging and getting ready for the big day tomorrow!

This is Normal, Right?

Image
The other day I ran down to the school's fitness room, just 4 doors from my classroom, to get in a quick run afterschool.   Minutes into my run, I get a text from my best friend, Stacy, who was running on the treadmill at her school - less then 30 miles away. So, of course, I had to send her a picture of me running.   I think it's definitely normal.  Don't you?

2 days later and I’m still sore (a good sore)

Stacy and I ventured out (of our comfort range) on Monday to try out crossfit.  Our friend, Karen, is a crossfit queen and has been trying to get Stacy to come to a class for some time now.  Since it’s February vacation week and yoga was cancelled for Monday night, we had a free night.  So crossfit it was.  At first I was very excited.  I couldn’t wait to see what crossfit was all about.  I’ve been reading plenty of blogs about crossfit exercises and have been pinning work outs left and right.   I’ve even tried to follow some crossfit videos on youtube.  The problem is that doing things at home, with a 3 year old who wants to “help” isn’t always great when I’m trying something new.   I even shaved my legs for class.  It's winter, and I have not been wearing shorts at all, so I have been quite sporadic about shaving.  Knowing that the class was inside and knowing I was going to sweat, I was very excited to wear some shor...

Rail Trail Chicks: Stacy

Image
This week, my featured Rail Trail Chick is Stacy.  Stacy is my bestest friend, ever.  I really could go on and on about Stacy, but I'd take away from from her post today!  I will share this one picture of the two of us pregnant (just over three years ago) with our daughters.   big bellies Oct 2008 Name: Stacy KRRT 1/2 Marathon June 2011 Who/what inspires you to run? I was always one of those people who gawked at runners on the side of the road wishing I could be one of them.  When Jen started running I was motivated even more.  It took me a while, but she finally convinced me that I could do it.  So, she was my real inspiration.  Now I am continually inspired to keep running by my children.  I love hearing them cheer for me at races and pretending to be runners themselves.   Stacy and her amazing family What is your best training tip? Running with others has really helped me to keep training.  I...

A Race to Remember

Image
Today was the Race to Remember 5K in Gardiner.  There are a couple of things I love about this race: - it's local - it's small (approx 100 participants today) - a majority of the course is on the rail trail  (we all know I love the RT) - the race benefits the Gardiner Boys and Girls Club  - and it's super cheap to register ($15) and the t-shirts have actually been pretty good We started off the day by drying out the jogger because it was absolutely soaked thanks to the thunderstorm that passed through early this morning.  Oops! Ward, Wade and the girls pre race. Thankfully it moved through quickly but it left behind some very humid conditions.  I was just thankful for no rain.  We had a nice sized crew at the race today - Jill, Stacy, Jess, Ward, Wade, and myself. Ward and Wade (only 2 weeks post Sugarloaf) raced with the girls because "they weren't ready to race yet".  Somehow, they still kicked some major ...
