Friday Favorites
Hello everyone and Happy Friday!
On tap for today is a 16 mile progressive run. I'll be going out later on today, waiting for cooler weather and for Ward to get home from work!!! I have a crazy busy weekend which is why I'm pushing the 16 miler up to today. Wish me luck! I don't really do well with long mileage later on in the day.
To get me ready for tonight, I'll be using some of my favorites.
That's a no brainer! No chaffage. Bright, fun patterns. Lightweight and smooth material so when I'm dripping wet from the crazy humidity, my shorts won't be dripping wet as well.
Socks.
Stable 26 has become a staple in my running sock collection. I've had very good luck wearing them and plan on wearing them for quite some time. They are thin enough so my feet do not overheat, stretchy so my toes do not feel cramped, and have the padding on the heels so my shoes do not slip. Even in shoes that typically didn't slip before, my feet feel like they are one with my shoes when I run. No more annoying readjusting of the shoes. Perfect fit every time.
Shoes.
I have to make sure my feet are happy in the shoes I choose. I would prefer to wear the Skechers Ultra tonight. But they have been retired. They told me last week no more runs. I am thinking I'll head out in my Go Run 3's tonight. They are light and cushy as well.
Hydration.
Most of the time I hydrate quite well. I usually drink a gallon of water a day. I definitely hydrate during my runs as well and I love bringing my CamelBak with me, especially with longer mileage.
During the day today, I'll continue to drink my water. All day. And will be careful about not taking in too much caffeine. Too much caffeine and long runs do not mix for me! But Pure LYFT is going to be my afternoon pick me up because I mix it with water and it's quite gentle on my stomach.
Pure LYFT is an energy stick that has zero calories and is a natural, clean caffeine and has the same amount of caffeine as one tall cup of coffee. I like that there are no artificial sweeteners, it is sweetened with stevia.
Today I have a giveaway for you for a 6 pack of Pure LYFT! To enter, do so through the rafflecopter below. And no worries, if you do not win... you can get free shipping with this code - RunningShipFree! I love free shipping!
disclaimer: I was reviewed Pure LYFT in May and was asked to do a giveaway this month. Because I enjoyed Pure LYFT so much, I thought my readers would enjoy their own! As always, all opinions expressed on my blog are 100% my own.
I haven't run with shorts like that in ages upon ages. I'm guessing that those don't creep up? That's why I switched to regular running shorts.
ReplyDeleteI drink a ton of water anyway so I make sure I get my electrolytes in by way of Vega or Nuun! But I need to try this clean caffeine thing. And PS. you are awesome!
ReplyDeleteNot at the "long" runs yet, but my sister and I just signed up for a 10k at Disney in Feb. So will be trying to increase distance as we get training for that. So far have only done 4 5K's.
ReplyDeleteLove the shorts! Socks can make or break a run! I love Swiftwick socks.
ReplyDeleteThose shorts are so fun! Good luck with your run today!
ReplyDeleteLove the Spandits! They look great!
ReplyDeleteTo get ready for long runs I have a cup of coffee, toast with peanut butter, some water and then I go to the bathroom about 10 times!
ReplyDeleteStop posting about spandits because I am going to have to get some....
ReplyDeleteI get ready for a long run by having my coffee and breakfast, having an FRS chew (which I could sub with Pure Lyft!) and my warm up routine that I posted Saturday--http://suzlyfe.com/2014/07/summer-long-run-playlist-runner-warm-up/.
And agree with Kiersten--BATHROOM.
AGREED
ReplyDeleteCame across LYFT while staying at the Sheraton in NYC - took one before my afternoon run. Fantastic - was dragging from the day - and had one of my best runs in a long time. I actually looked them up on the web and purchased some - strongly recommend
ReplyDeleteCool socks!
ReplyDeleteThey are pretty awesome. They look funky with the padding....but the padding rocks!
ReplyDeleteSo happy to hear you like it so much!!!!
ReplyDeleteOh I visit the bathroom so much!!!!! Sometimes even on the run. In the woods. Ugh!
ReplyDeleteLove Spandits!
ReplyDeleteThey are the best shorts ever!!!
ReplyDeleteI've never tried Swiftwick...... but I agree. Socks do make or break a run.
ReplyDelete"long run" is relative. For the longest time 5 miles was long....then 6...then it gradually got up there. When I'm not marathon training, a long run is anything 8 or over. :) That is so awesome you and Lori will be doing the 10k in Disney!!!
ReplyDeleteLOVED your birthday running photo today!!!!
ReplyDeleteThey creep up a little in the first 5 minutes. But after the blood gets going and my legs swell up a little...they stay in place perfectly!!!
ReplyDeleteI eat oatmeal and a banana before a long run. I drink a few sips of water but that's about it pre-run.
ReplyDeleteI have an english muffin with peanut butter usually before long runs.
ReplyDeleteI make sure to bring lots of water (and take water breaks periodically while out) and not run on an empty stomach.
ReplyDeleteI lay all my clothes, hydration pack and reflective gear out the night before. First thing in the morning I have a cup of coffee! :)
ReplyDeleteMy husband is the runner - he hydrates, fuels up, stretches, and always lets me know where he's headed.
ReplyDeleteI stretch out before a long run. Thanks for the opportunity.
