Hands-Free Hipster Product Review by Outward Hound + Giveaway
I am truly blessed to have a very loyal running buddy who is usually blocking my path when I try to leave for a run....my girl Pepper!
She is always willing to go for a run with me and is happy to even do doubles when Ward and I do not communicate. Yes - we've done this before. She had an 8 mile day because of this. Oops!
Running with her hasn't always been easy. It took quite a bit of training. She used to be a puller. Big time. Once she completely took me out in icy conditions - broke free and got away from me. That was not a fun run. But with lots of patience and practice, she has become the best running dog ever. I don't know what I would do without having her as a running buddy.
A couple of weeks ago, we were sent the Hands-Free Hipster Jogging Leash and it has earned itself a permanent place hanging by the door. Now that's quite an honor around here.
It was immediate love the first time we ran with it. The waist band has two d-rings, one on each side of my waist, so we can choose which side to put the leash. A lovely feature as Pepper is very picky about which side she runs on. She always has to be on my left. The waist pack itself is a little big - but for good reason. It's quite secure. It has a little give, but not too much. When Pepper ran in front of me or behind me, the waistband moved freely to allow for her comfort as well. This didn't bother me at all.
One thing I wished it had was a pocket large enough for my phone. I have the iPhone 6 and the pocket isn't large enough to accommodate it. But, really, it's not the end of the world, as I have other methods to carry it - plus my hands are both free now since I do not have to carry the leash...so if I carry it for the 3-5 miles I run with Pepper, it's really not a a big deal.
Pros:
* Price at $29.95 (currently marked down from $34.95) - this is a great deal!
* Pockets to carry keys, fuel, smaller cell phone, mace - small items
* Adjustable waste
* D-rings on both sides to allow for a choice in which side your dog runs on
* Leash part has a handle, so if you had to "correct" or grab on for safety reasons, you can
* Leash is adjustable
Cons:
* Pocket could be a little bigger for phone

This product would be perfect, since I usually have a leash in both hands.
ReplyDeleteCUTE!! I wish Clark would run with me...but not so much. He prefers to meander at his own speed haha
ReplyDeleteI would love one of these so I could train Charlie to run with me. I usually take him with the flexi-leash but its very cumbersome. Something like this would be so great to have, also would leave both of my hands free in case I get tripped and fall! Great post as always Jen!
ReplyDeleteI bet you would LOVE it!!!! Good luck!
ReplyDeleteIt's great for walking too! ;) Clark might like that!
ReplyDeleteIt would take some training so Charlie doesn't dart out in front of you...but this would be nice for you and Charlie!
ReplyDeleteVery cool! I could see my brother using this!
ReplyDeleteRiley is an awdul runninh partner. A lab that would rather trot then run. Scared of everything. But the first sight of a squirrel, rabbit, orcat? He's never run faster
ReplyDeleteDo you have all night? I could talk about my four legged running partner all night. She runs with me every week and even comes on my long runs up to 13 miles with me. She is my little love.
ReplyDeleteMy Henri is picky about what side he runs on to, but he's a righty!
ReplyDeleteCola usually runs off leash, in fact I don't think he has had a leash on in years, but it could be interesting to try!
ReplyDeleteALLL MY GOLDENDOODLE BFF WOULD LOVE THIS as would I.
ReplyDeleteThis looks like a great idea! I've looked at these before for my labs but haven't tried one yet.
ReplyDeleteFun! I get to review this too:) It's probably sitting in my mailbox right now;)
ReplyDeleteI really love this idea for a running leash. It's something we always talked about for Maddie, but never ended up getting.
ReplyDeleteI've always wanted to try one of these! My dog (Mia Monster) looks a lot like Pepper and she use to be a sprinter but has become a better running companion with age. :)
ReplyDeleteI would love to try one of these with Josie!!
ReplyDeleteHint - on stairs...hold onto the leash with your hand. Those dogs get a little excited in the beginning!!! I hope you win!
ReplyDeleteMia Monster...super cute!!! I wish you the best of luck. I think you will love it.
ReplyDeleteIt would be a great idea for Maddie!
ReplyDeleteI hope you love it!!!
ReplyDeleteIt is awesome!!! Your labs would love it. It only comes with one leash...but has two D rings. I'm sure you could figure something out for another leash?
ReplyDeleteOh yes he would!!!! :)
ReplyDeleteYou are so lucky to be able to run with Cola without a leash. I'm too nervous with the busy road to do that with Pepper!
ReplyDeleteCute! I love how dogs pick their side and that is how it's going to be.
ReplyDeleteFor you? Of course I do. I love that you run with your little love. :) 13 miles is amazing! Pepper's longest was 8.
ReplyDeleteOh that's cute! Pepper is rather timid if she hears something in the woods. :)
ReplyDeleteAwesome!!!
ReplyDeleteWe recently got another dog that is very hyper and likes to run. I have to learn how to run and teach him how to run along side me and I think he is getting the hang of it. This looks like a great way not to break form while running. Love it!!
ReplyDeleteMy yellow lab, Stoney, is getting up in years but he still enjoys breaking out in a run once in a while. I'm sorry to say that we've never completely eliminated the pulling. That's the only part I don't like about running with him.
ReplyDeleteMy puppy is too small to run long runs, but we play in the yard!
ReplyDeleteA big dumb lab. jk
ReplyDeleteDefinitely helps with running form and not tweaking your body with pulling back on the dog. :) I hope it works well for you!!!
ReplyDeletePulling is hard. But it is so nice to get out with your Stoney!!!
ReplyDeleteOh that's cute!!!! Maybe short jogs with the leash!
ReplyDeleteLOL. But I bet your lab loves to run!
ReplyDeleteI've always tried to run with my pirate dog ( one eyed corgi) but juggling the leash was always and issue, and attaching it to my belt always resulted in some cars getting a cheeky view! I've been looking everywhere for something like this, especially since my boy is starting to get some of those famous corgi pounds lol
ReplyDeleteGunner is an Australian Shepard and he runs faster than any dog I've ever had.
