5 reasons why you should run a marathon for FUN!

Image
Marathon?  Fun?   Why, yes.  It IS possible.     I've run 8 marathons.  Now that doesn't make me a pro by any stretch of the imagination.  However, overtime I've run a marathon I've had a goal in mind.   *Complete my first marathon*  *sub4hours* *PR* but it's taken me a long time to come to the place where I run a marathon for fun.  And you know what?  I freaking LOVED it!    1.   No pressure.     Leave your Garmin at home and while your at it, leave your music at home too.  That way you can experience everything the marathon has to offer.  Time doesn't matter in this case.  Completion and FUN matter most.   2.   Smiles.   When you're in it for fun, it's easy to smile the entire way.  I felt like I had a smile plastered on my face for the entire 26.2 miles at NYCM.   3.   Take in the sights.    If you'...

The Happiest 5k on the Planet

Image
I am seriously in love with happy , fun races .  I am especially LOVING races that I can do with my kids and friends. When I saw the Color Run advertised for Portland, Maine earlier this spring, I really wanted to do it.  But I knew my race schedule was already packed for July, so I didn't.   After reading about some many bloggers experiences doing this race, I now regret it.  And nobody wants to regret not doing a race, ever!   I really wish the Color Run was coming back to Maine soon, but I guess I am going to have to wait until next July!  I'm a patient girl (sometimes).   Why wouldn't I want to do the Happiest 5k on the Planet ?  This unique paint race celebrates healthiness , happiness , individuality , and giving back to the community .   The Color Run is not about your fastest 5k.  It's an untimed run that focuses on the fun.  Then when you get to the finish line, there's a gigantic "Color Festival" usi...

Color US RAD!

Image
Friday afternoon the kids and I headed down to Brunswick to pick up our Color Me Rad packets.  We quickly got our bib numbers and shirts and were on our way.   The crew at packet pick up was incredibly nice and efficient!   Before heading home, we stopped by the craft store and picked up some white t-shirts and puffy paint so we could make our race shirts.    The kids love their personalized shirts!  Now I need to head out of the store today to get some spray with hopes to preserve the color bombs on the shirts - as they are both in love with their colorful shirts. We left bright and early Saturday morning and ready for a great day at Color Me Rad with our new, cool glasses!   I opted to cover the jogger with a white sheet and fun color splat duct tape.  Not to protect the jogger - I'm not worried about it.  It's red and the color bombs would easily wash off.  But to get more color on it!  But what I di...

What's Colorful & Fun? #ColorMeRad5k Of Course!

Image
I know , I know !  I'm not supposed to be running.  But you cannot tell me that the Color Me Rad 5k   doesn't look like a blast !   Even if I walk it.  I am planning on doing this with my kids .  And if the prognosis of the knee is worse than I'm hoping (fingers still crossed!), then either I'll walk it or I'll transfer my registration to my husband.  That is one thing I LOVE about this race.  You can transfer your registration to anyone anytime - even up to packet pickup.   AWESOME !   Oh and kids under 7 are FREE!   What is a Color Me Rad 5k ?   It's an untimed fun run (or walk) where you start out in a white shirt and you get completely coated by Color Bombs of blue , green , pink , purple , and yellow until your entire body looks tie-dyed.  Each section you run though will add a new color to your look and when you cross the finish line, you'll get a final blast of all colors . I was a little wo...

Go Tucker Go!

Tucker is in training to run his 1st 5k.  This is so exciting!  He and I will be running the Monmouth AppleFest 5K at the end of September.  He's been doing a lot of bike riding and some easy runs with me.  I don't want to push him too hard, but I want him to be ready for the 5k as well.   On Saturday, he ran the Kids Fun Run after the Old Hallowell Day 5k. Warming up for the fun run..... Tucker and his "best buddy" Jackson What a smile! I am one proud momma!   Also - for more pictures of the fun run, go here .
