Gary Allen - this man defines Inspiration #me2dcrun

On Monday morning, Gary Allen was taken to the top of Cadillac Mountain in Bar Harbor, Maine by snowmobile.  He then set out on a 700 mile running journey in snowshoes.  Of course, after he was off the mountain, he did change into his Nike's.  His destination - Washington DC, with hopes of arriving in time for the inauguration.   This man is the definition of inspiration.   You can watch a news clip here.

He is doing this to raise money for three great causes - Wounded Warriors, American Cancer Society and Sandy Hook Elementary.   If you'd like to donate to any of these causes, please visit his Maine2DC site.

Gary has had some excellent running partners along the way - Joan Benoit Samuelson joined him the other day, my friend Sarah has joined him a couple of times, even my dad joined him.

My friend Sarah texted this to me while I was teaching the other day.  This is Gary and my dad.  I am so happy my dad was able to make it out there to encourage him and to get the chance to run with him.  And I'm incredibly jealous!

To track where he's run and where he will run, visit his site and go to the My Athlete Live link.  You can even download the app on your iPhone or Droid and see where Gary is going.   If you live along the route, or if you can get out to see him at any point to run with him or provide some support, I know Gary would appreciate it.  He's gone more than 250 miles already, but still has a long way to go to reach his goal.

    I have been following him daily! I really wish he was coming our way, but we aren't near the coast at all. I would love to run with him, I'm jealous your dad was able to!

Socks are very important to a runner.   If they rub you the wrong way, it will make for a very uncomfortable run.  Bunching up, toes too cold, too hot, rubbing - all things that can go wrong with a sock.  I'm sure there are some other scenarios I've left out. Meet Sarah & Kelly   They are the women behind Spandits.   Spandits is a Maine company specializing in creating high quality, original athletic apparel.  Both of these women are amazing.  They are mothers, running coaches and marathoners.  They know running and what feels good. the label - on my capris, it is located just below the knee I came across their store on Ward's facebook page a few months ago and immediately fell in love.   I have gotten quite bored with my plain black and gray tights and capris.  Yes, they match just about any top, but there's nothing special about them at all.  Now, Spandits is all about special and original.  They stand out in a crowd and definitely get quite a bit of attention. ArmPocket Review + Giveaway

One of the must haves when running is my phone.  I run with it for safety and of course, to stop and take a picture.  You never know when you'll see something great on the side of the road or when I have to take a selfie.  Runner priorities. I had this old arm band for the original iTouch I bought Ward years ago, so I've been using that running armband for my iPhone.  Well, sometimes.  It's horrible.  It's hard to get my phone in and out of it.  It's not water resistant at all.  And there's no room to carry other things in it.  Very frustrating. Which lead to me simply carrying my phone.  With my hands.   And I was okay with that.  It was quite easy to take a picture because I already had the phone in my hand.  But there was one problem.  A pretty major one and I didn't even notice until my brother-in-law saw me running one day and asked me why I didn't use my arms when I run.  Hmmmm......   I thought I was using my arms.  I have many pictures
