Ice Rink?

Today was a day when I wished I knew how to ice skate because I could have definitely put some on and let Pepper pull me on the Rail Trail.  We had a very light snow action going on when I got out for my run, which isn't so bad, but there was a sheet of ice under it that I did not (could not) see!  Thankfully I had on my yak trax and they provided me with some traction.  I was still sliding all over the place which made for an interesting run.  I got in 6 miles today and it was a hard workout!

I've been meaning to share this video with everyone.  My dad and Barb were able to make it to the January Thaw Race last weekend. It's always great to have a cheering squad at a race, with cowbells.   Especially if the only people there cheering on runners are there for me!  1st they stand in the rain for 4+ hours cheering me on for the Maine Marathon, next they stand in the bitter cold for the January Thaw.  Now that's just love, don't you think?

    I ran from the Augusta end this morning and it isn't any better until you get past the Y off ramp towards the bridge then it is mostly snow with only patches of ice. Love the cheering section video :-)

    It's that time of year when I completely abandon the RT and run on the roads 100%.  I'm not happy about it, but it's only temporary.  This morning the girls and I will be dong our 10 miles on the roads.  We've been lucky to run this long on the RT!!!

Socks are very important to a runner.   If they rub you the wrong way, it will make for a very uncomfortable run.  Bunching up, toes too cold, too hot, rubbing - all things that can go wrong with a sock.  I'm sure there are some other scenarios I've left out. Running at night scares used to terrify me.  But, it all comes down to if I want to run I had to get over this fear.  Running in the darkness is my only option if I plan on running Monday through Friday since it’s dark before school and getting dark when I leave school and it’s going to be this way until mid February/March.  I supposed option B would be to rejoin the gym, but I really don’t want to spend the $$ and I don’t really enjoy the treadmill anymore.  So, outside it is! Tommie Rocks + Giveaway!

 A little over a month ago, Jordan from  Tommie Copper  sent me some Tommie Copper gear to sample.  I nearly peed my pants with excitement when the Tommie package came in the mail.  It was a gorgeous fall afternoon AND I had new gear to try out, so I pushed dinner back and made the executive decision to go for a run immediately.  Have you heard about Tommie Copper ?  This company is known for it’s compression gear that is infused with Copper.  So, why does Tommie use copper in it’s compression gear?  From what I gather, copper has been used medicinally for 1000’s of years.  Apparently copper stimulates the immune system to fight infections, repairs injured tissues and promotes healing.  Do you think if I outfitted myself in TC gear and wore it to school everyday, I would fight off those gross elementary kid germs?  I’m tempted to try that out.  Seriously.   Why do people even wear compression gear?  Do they just like wearing tight clothing?
